Are you planning a daytrippen adventure to the UFO crash site at Shag Harbour? It might be a reach from Ontario; however, I did the math, and it’s possible.
UFO rumours and conspiracy stories started this way. The townspeople in Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, watched odd-coloured flashing lights in the sky. Whatever it was, it suddenly noised-dived into the ocean. All that was left was a slime of yellow, blob-like foam stretching a half-mile long.
The townspeople thought it was a downed aircraft and the Navy was called, the Coast Guard was called, everyone was looking for a downed “airplane with no luck.’
So now the aircraft theory is out of the question; then what? Unidentified flying object. (UFO) came to mind.
So as rumours unfolded, newspaper articles of the strange sighting at Shag Harbour, NS. It was the talk for a decade, and still today the area is known as the UFO capital of Nova Scotia.
As a UFO Buff, this would be a good daytrippen afternoon to the Shag Harbour UFO Centre. If I only lived closer.
So I reached out to the volunteers at the UFO centre and asked them: just by chance, “did they had a life-size flying saucer so a tourist like me could actually go inside,” punch a few buttons and dials and pretend. But alas, “heck of a good idea they said.” “But no-can-do.”
Although they have many UFO enthusiasts from around the world come to the UFO Centre, they only have documents, items, stories and memorabilia photos to show the public.
Knowing that, would I still go? Yep, I would.
Visualizing looking over the very spot where the UFO crashed into the ocean has history; it has wonder, excitement, and, maybe a lot of truth yet to unfold.
But did I say: planning a daytripping adventure to a UFO crash site at Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia might be a reach from Ontario; however, I did the math, and it is possible in one day.
Did you know that while walking the beach at Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia and looking for anything that washed up from this story? Nova Scotia in its own right is a unique province to explore and for many reasons. To the west side for example, along the Bay of Fundy and along the New Brunswick border, are the highest tides in the world. (40-foot tide coming in and going out. Which is a sight to see.
Although most of my daytrippen and articles wrap around Central Ontario, this will be next year’s adventure.

I’ve not been there … yet. However, the comments when visiting the Shag Harbour UFO Centre were “small museum” but positive.
#1 I worked at an airport and one summer there was a lot of (UFO) activity above the airport. One of the FA Managers came running in and said, “You have got to see this!” I followed her to the ‘Tower’. Leaned over a shoulder and watched the radar screen. There was one solitary blip that did not move, stayed stationary the entire time, then a whole bunch of little blips came out of it. They left in different directions and then wham…gone.
#2 Canadian UFO incidents never get the same attention as US ones. My own late grandfather took 2 photographs of a flying disc he saw in the early 70s on a fishing trip in northern Ontario. I remember him showing the photos (actually, they were slides back then. Believe it or not, they were just part of his vacation slide show!) … and telling us the story when I was a kid (I’m 50 now). I don’t know if he reported it. He was an industrial mechanical engineer and no idiot. I believe.
#I’m 71 years old I remember that incident very well I would a young boy myself living in upstate New York for some dumb reason I was outside that night when something went overhead I could explain it from that time on I been intrested and UFO’s and what is out there keep up the good work I wish I could have been with you that night
