Visiting a Steampunk Festival is like stepping back in time. Imagine hundreds of people dressed in imaginative, elaborate Victorian-inspired costumes mixed with futuristic gadgets, mechanical inventions, brass gears, and vintage accessories, all coming together for one unforgettable event.
I promise you’ll have a great time. Whether you’re young or old, or simply a photographer’s dream with so many creative costumes and interesting characters coming to life.
If you’ve never attended a Steampunk Festival, put these dates on your DayTrippen calendar. Here are a few suggestions for your Daytrippen festival adventure.
*Fergus, Ontario, I’ve been there and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
*Coldwater, Ontario: A beautiful village where I once lived and visited many times since.
*Hastings Medieval Festival: I haven’t been there yet, but I plan to visit their Steampunk Festival.
*Fort Malden Living History Festival: I’ve heard many good things about this event, although it’s not totally advertised as a Steampunk Festival; however, it has all the makings. I haven’t had the chance to attend … yet.
- The best part? All of these destinations are within a reasonable day trip from central Ontario. They’re perfect for getting out of the house, having some fun, and still being home for supper.
Cogs & Clockwork Steampunk Festival, Fergus, Ontario, September 11–12, 2026*
This two-day outdoor festival transforms downtown Fergus into a Victorian fantasy world featuring street theatre, live music, artisans, inventors, and exclusive North American performances by “Professor Elemental” and The Cog Is Dead.

Some festivals celebrate the Victorian era, while others embrace the Wild West, steam-powered technology, or Victorian science fiction. Every festival has its own personality, but they all share one thing in common: “imagination.”
Many feature elaborate costumes, airships, mechanical inventions, theatrical performances, and cabaret entertainment. Some participants spend months designing their outfits, and their dedication is remarkable.
Coldwater Steampunk & Oddity Days.
Saturday, August 29, 2026*
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
This free, family-friendly event takes place along Main Street and features retro-futuristic Victorian themes, costume contests, artisan vendors, and the popular Oddities Market.
The historic village transforms into a fantasy world where Victorian elegance meets industrial innovation. Visitors are encouraged to dress in their best Steampunk, gaslamp fantasy, or time-traveller attire while enjoying street performers, acrobats, live entertainment, and unique vendors.

Hastings Medieval Festival, September 5–7, 2026
“Blades of Glory, Hastings, Ontario.”
This three-day festival includes a popular “Knight vs. Pirate Day,” attracting medieval and Steampunk enthusiasts alike. Enjoy sword-fighting demonstrations, falconry, artisan merchants, historical displays, and hands-on activities like archery.
Admission starts at $15 CAD.
Fort Malden Living History Festival, Saturday, August 1, 2026
Amherstburg, Ontario.
This outdoor festival recreates early Canadian life with period encampments, military demonstrations, and pioneer exhibits.
Although it focuses on historical authenticity rather than Steampunk, it attracts costume makers, textile artists, history enthusiasts, and visitors who appreciate beautifully crafted 19th-century clothing.
Every one of these festivals celebrates the same spirit, “Steampunk.”

*** Building a great Steampunk costume starts with Victorian fashion.
Think corsets, waistcoats, top hats, pocket watches, long coats, lace dresses, and leather boots.
Then add industrial-inspired accessories such as brass gears, goggles, mechanical gadgets, and a little science fiction imagination.
*There really are no strict rules—if it looks Victorian with a mechanical twist, you’re probably on the right track.
